Organ absorbed does estimates in pediatric patients due to 99mTc-DTPA radiopharmaceutical using MIRDOSE software

Background: In this study, radiation dose estimate was calculated for the renal agent 99mTc-DTPA in children. Bio-kinetic of 99mTc-DTPA were evaluated by scintigraphy and radiation absorbed dose estimates were performed using standard MIRD techniques by MIRDOSE software.Methods: Fourteen child patients were imaged using a series of planar and SPECT images after injection with 99mTc-DTPA (at 30 min to 12 h post injection). A hybrid planar/SPECT method was used to plot time activity curves for obtain source organs resident time and then to calculate absorbed doses of organs, MIRDOSE software was used.Results: Mean absorbed dose for urinary bladder wall (213.5±47.8), kidneys (12.97±6.23), gonads (12.0±2.5), liver (4.29±1.47) and adrenals (3.31±0.96) were respectively. Also, the mean effective dose was 17.5±3.7 μSv/MBq that bladder activity has the most share in the effective dose.Conclusion: Use of hybrid planar/SPECT method can to be caused increasing in accumulated activity accuracy for region of interest. Also, patient specific internal dosimetry for each patient recommended.
